云南墨江紫米曾是“贡米”，如今它不是主流产品，又不为市场所熟知，销路一直打不开，很多村民已放弃种植，哈尼姑娘李元美为了留住“小时候的味道”，坚持种植紫米，但却遭遇紫米卖不出去的困境。紫米是科学家们心中珍贵的高山珍稀生物遗传种质资源，也是哈尼族传统文化中非常重要的元素，重要节庆和祭祀必须用到紫米。为了保护珍稀的种质资源和水稻品种的“生物多样性”，以及哈尼族传统文化，李元美的坚持获得了外界的认可，各方力量都在帮助她，将珍贵的紫米继续种下去。
