安永(EY)再次推迟了其美国咨询业务部分新员工的入职日期,这是不确定的经济形势给专业服务公司带来压力的又一例证。
安永给原本预计今年秋天入职的一些应届毕业生通知,他们要到2024年7月或8月才能入职,这与原本入职的日期几乎晚了一年。
英国《金融时报》看到了安永校园招聘部门周二发给EY-Parthenon业务一名招聘人员的电子邮件,邮件显示,这一决定是“基于新兴的商业条件和我们对业务需求的评估”。
EY-Parthenon是该公司咨询部门的精英品牌,为首席执行官提供咨询,从事重组和并购交易,以及数字化转型和其他咨询工作。在安永全球39.5万名员工中,EY-Parthenon占9,000人。

EY-Parthenonsitsasanelitebrandwithinthefirm’sadvisoryarm,offeringcounseltochiefexecutivesandworkingonrestructuringandM&Adeals,alongwithdigitaltransformationandotherconsultingwork.Itaccountsfor9,000ofEY’sglobalworkforceof395,000.
EYalsodelayedstartdatesfornewrecruitstootherpartsoftheadvisorybusiness,accordingtodiscussioninonlineforumsandaWednesdayemailseenbytheFT.
EYanditsrivalshavecomeunderpressureduetoaprolongedslideinM&Aactivityandaslowdowninbroaderconsultingworkascompaniesreduceorcancelprojectsandpushforlowerfees.EYsaidearlierthisyearthatitwaslayingoff5percentofitsUSworkforce,withthecutsconcentratedintheadvisorybusiness.
EY-Parthenonfirstpushedbackstartdatesforits2023recruitsintheUSaroundthesametimeasthelay-offsbeganinApril,tellingmanyofthegraduatesthattheywouldnotbeneededuntilDecemberorFebruary2024.
Itsemailthisweeksaiditwasacceleratingstartdatesforsome,butfurtherdeferringstartdatesforothers.“Yourearlyexperienceinthepracticeisimportantforsettingyouonastrongtrajectory,andwebelievethatyou’llhaveabetteropportunitytogrow,developandprogressinthepracticewithaJulystartdate,”ittolddisappointedrecruits.
“EY-Parthenonisheavyinstrategyandtransactionswork,”saidNamaanMian,chiefoperatingofficerofManagementConsulted,whichcoachesstudentsthroughtherecruitmentprocess.“Youcombineadealmakingslowdownwithalowerutilisationratefortheircurrentconsultants,andthatleadstodelayedstartdates.”
EY-Parthenon’semailsaiditwouldpaya$5,000lumpsumtocompensatefortheextrafive-monthdelay.AnotherrecruitfacingadelayuntilAugustwastoldtheywouldget$6,000.
“Whatsucksisdelayingittwice,insteadofjustdelayingitforawholeyearinitially,”saidonenewhire,whohadalreadysignedaleaseforaccommodationinanticipationofstartingthisautumn.
“Wecouldhaveplannedsomethingentirelydifferent,suchasanextrayearofschoolorfindingabetterinternshiporjob.Instead,wehavebeenstuckinthisin-betweenplace.”
