Shanghai Museum to reopen with Da Vinci exhibition next month

Thereare18worksofRenaissanceartfromthecollectionsofVenerandaBibliotecaAmbrosiana,ComplessoMonumentaledellaPilotta,andCasaBuonarroti,aswellas18masterpiecesofancientChinesepaintingfromtheShanghaimuseum.Theeventisco-organizedbytheShanghaimuseumandtheEncyclopedicInstituteofTreccani,Italy,andissupportedbytheconsulategeneralofItalyinShanghai.
ThisisthefirsttimetheShanghaimuseumhaspresentedanoriginalexhibitionofthedialoguebetweenEasternandWesternart,aswellasthemostvividrepresentationofLeonardodaVinci's(1452-1519)originalworkseverunveiledinChina.
DaVinci's1490painting"TheLadywithDisheveledHair"isunquestionablytheexhibition'shighlight.ThepaintingisallowedtoleaveItalyonceeveryfiveyears.Theexhibitionalsofeatures11valuablemanuscriptsbythemaster,aswellastwosketchesbyMichelangeloBuonarroti(1475–1564).
BothChineseandWesternpaintinghavegonethroughsimilarhistoricalperiods,particularlyaroundthe15thcentury.Artistsfrombothcountriestookdivergentpathsintheirartisticbeliefsandmethods.
The18ChinesepaintingsthatreverberatewithRenaissanceartinclude"WatergateGristmill"(907-960)and"LadywithFanintheAutumnBreeze"byTangYin(1470-1523),bothofwhichclaimtobethe"bestofthebest"fromtheShanghaiMuseum'scollection.
