2004年受聘教育部长江学者奖励计划特聘教授；1998年至2022年先后担任南京大学数学系党委书记、系主任；江苏省数学学会第十届、第十一届理事长，第十二届监事会监事长。研究方向主要是代数数论和代数K理论。在国际著名刊物上发表了数十篇论文，研究结果在国际同行中产生了广泛而积极的影响，被国外同行称为“秦的方法”。
In2004,hewasappointedasaDistinguishedProfessorundertheMinistryofEducation'sChangjiangScholarsProgram.From1998to2022,hesuccessivelyservedasthePartySecretaryandtheHeadoftheMathematicsDepartmentatNanjingUniversity.Hewasalsothe10thand11thPresidentofJiangsuMathematicalSocietyandtheChairmanofthe12thSupervisoryBoard.HisresearchfocusesprimarilyonalgebraicnumbertheoryandalgebraicK-theory.Hehaspublisheddozensofpapersininternationallyrenownedjournals,andhisresearchresultshavehadawideandpositiveimpactamonginternationalpeers,whorefertohisworkas“MethodofQin.”
