【中国近代航空事业先驱后裔杜利威：此生心系中国】“在12年的政治生涯中，我最想做的事情就是在中美之间搭起交往的桥梁，于是就有了缔结友好城市的想法。”上世纪80年代，担任美国檀香山市议员的杜利威积极推进檀香山市和夏威夷州与中国广东省中山市和海南等地区建立友好城市关系。作为檀香山市和夏威夷州政坛上十分少见的华人面孔，杜利威的另一个身份是中国近代航空事业先驱杨仙逸的外孙。过去50年里，杜利威致力于收集外公和家族的故事，并希望将这份血脉相承的中国情缘继续传递给下一代，分享给更多人。FormerHonolulucouncilmemberLeighWaiDoohasbeenarenownedChinese-Americanactivistsincethe1980s.Intheearly1990s,hepromptedtheestablishmentofasistercitybondbetweenHawaiiandChina'ssouthernmostprovince,Hainan,followedbythesistercitybondbetweenHonoluluandZhongshanCityinGuangdongProvince,wherehisfamilylivedmorethanacenturyago.AdescendantofYangXianyi,oneofChina'saviationpioneers,LeighWaiDooisn'tabouttoletthatheritageslipaway.Ithasbeenhislife-longaimtostrengthentherelationshipbetweentheU.S.andChina,deepensoftpowerexchanges,andfosterfriendlyconnectionsbetweenthetwocountriesandtheirpeoples.
