“一镜到今”，此次展览顺着历史发展的时间轴，展示了山东地区从史前开始到商周、秦汉隋唐、宋元明清、近现代直至新时代一脉相承的文化历史画卷。亚醜钺、蛋壳黑陶高柄杯、九旒冕等各大镇馆之宝代表了中国历史上各个重要时期的特色。

“黑如漆，亮如镜，薄如纸，硬如瓷”，蛋壳黑陶高柄杯是山东龙山文化的重要标志。其口沿最薄处仅为0.2毫米，比鸡蛋壳还要薄！堪称四千年前的“黑科技”，其工艺至今还无法被完美复刻。

鲁荒王朱檀的绝世冠冕“九旒冕”距今600余年，是唯一一件存世的明初冕冠实物，具有极高的文物价值与历史价值，是研究明初礼制的重要证据。其制作工艺包括竹编、髹漆、金器玉器加工等，反映了当时高超的手工业生产技术，为当之无愧的国之瑰宝。

展览运用平面信息模块、立体体验装置和现代媒体技术等多种先进“黑科技”，构建集“文物、图版、媒体、情境”于一体的多元化信息阐释系统，使逛展有趣、易懂且好看。此外，这里不再只陈列文物，而是营造了一个艺术与科技相融合、丰富多彩的观展世界。观众可以在史前时期展厅，通过大屏幕，与早期人类、早期动物展开互动交流，沉浸于远古氛围中；可以近距离观察万年前，早期人类的洞穴式生活；可以通过影像，了解最早的神秘开颅术等。
